Severe storms and tornadoes damaged many of the area radio and TV towers area Monday. At the height of the storm all Brewer Broadcasting stations were off the air due to a generator failure at the station. As of 5PM Tuesday here are the current outages:
Groove 93, Power 94, & 103.7 Kiss FM are all still waiting for power crews to reach the site of their transmitter which has been off the air since around 2PM yesterday. The tower that took the worst hit by the storm was the 300 foot auxiliary tower of News 12. Hit the read more link below to see more pictures of the fallen tower.
hippie 106.9, wplz 95.3, and espn 105.1 were also out. That's Brewer for you
ReplyDeletecitadels streams wouldn't connect.
ReplyDeleteSo if you didn't have a radio in the office building you were screwed.
What happened air net?
Cheap shot at Brewer...that jealousy for you...
ReplyDeleteESPN was NOT off the air. In fact, David Karnes and Chris Peddie commandeered Nick's studio for a while to deliver news and weather information Monday afternoon. And you can hardly blame the company for a generator failure. The original post is incorrect. The generator failure was NOT at the station, but at the transmitter site on Signal Mountain. The road was blocked and our engineer couldn't get to the transmitter to work on it until the road was cleared and opened by the police department. Even Verizon Wireless was off for 20 hours due to the storm.

ReplyDeleteHey Citadel what will you do when your aging audience dies off?
The fact is no in radio is generating new audiences. They are all going to the net.
And that is bad news for a medium we all love.
