96.5 The Mountain 'Upgrades' to Hits96

UPDATE 2: As expected WDOD/Chattanooga has now 'upgraded' to Hits 96. Same format, same airstaff. So far only change is the name.

UPDATE: An anonymous tipster has let us know that WDOD Radio has acquired the domain name Hits96.com.

Word is out from the 96.5 The Mountain Twitter & Facebook accounts that The Mountain is due for a 'major upgrade' tomorrow at noon.

No word on what they are planning but we will keep you updated.

  1. Is the wheel of formats turning? Just like the "evolution" that happened a few years prior?

  2. Maybe they will actually drop the morning talk fest of Kidd and get back to playing music??

  3. i see the headlines now "Chattanooga's New Country Station"

    ReplyDelete
  4. Doubt it is anything major. Seeing their ratings and billing, I doubt that they would dare touch what's working.

  5. Just in to rumor central... CC Chattanooga is selling to Cumulus.

  6. Count on WDOD to switch to Renegade Country tomorrow at noon. Deep inside sources say evevyone will be let go tomorrow. Air talent (many from Nashville staying at the Choo Choo tonight to prepare to take down USY tomorrow.

  15. CC should be concerned kissy lost 45% of their audience in the last book, sad times.

  16. Wow. Someone on Broad Street just realized that it takes FOCUS to be in the Top 40 game. I didn't expect Broad Street to ever figure it out. They did, I give them credit. I cant believe I am about to say this (they might have just hit a home run).

  17. OOOOHHHHHH they changed their logo! Still same old dead beat jocks they've used since their old mountain days! Yeah, yeah I know Kidd and that night guys weren't on the old Mountain but still BORING!

  18. Have to agree! Same girl. New dress. You will still have to go to the clinic later.

  19. Nice to see the Clear Channel folks chime in. Still sour about losing half of your audience?

    And from CC radio stations....

  23. Ummm more original than the garbage that CC trys to fool listeners with everyday. As for logos look at the very original Kissy logo. About as generic as a k-mart sign. Here more downsizing is on the way that will leave, oh yea 0 empolyees

  24. Kidd Kraddick #1

    Live and Local Dayparts
    Middays #2
    Kiss #5

  25. but WDOD took a CC logos? So, I guess it's not all that bad!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Seems to me Bahakel has been making some pretty smart moves lately!i

  27. What reality are you living in? Middays was Seacrest. Yes WDOD won.

    Afternoons
    WKXJ 4th
    WDOD 5th

    Nights
    WKXJ 2nd
    WDOD 5th

    Get the facts right.

  30. I see someone got a hold of the all important 12-17 demo's.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well that found its way to the gutter quick.

Here's what's important - coming from a one-time (yes, only once) PD that now lives comfortably in his home with a cushy office job with a window, free from radio.

I think someone mentioned the website was registered in 08, which would support my theory that it should have probably happened before today. Be that as it may, don't brush this off as a small move. Has anyone actually posted about HOW IT SOUNDS?

Someone mentioned focus earlier and that is exactly what comes through the speakers. I know very little about the inner-workings of these groups in town, so I humbly wait for someone to explain. What I hear is a 90 MPH CHR that would compete with anything in Atlanta, Miami, etc. It has only been a few hours, but I'm impressed.

Now, back to the food fight.

  32. They should have changed the name the day they changed to Top 40! The name "96.5, The Mountain" was the name of the rock station, a completely different format. (A much better one, too!)

    ReplyDelete
  33. It seems that no one that actually posts about numbers have ever seen the numbers.

In both 18-34 and 25-54, WDOD beat KXJ in every daypart. Only exception was at night, where KXJ won 18-34 but were destroyed (by 5 positions) 25-54.

If you look at it objectively, WDOD does all of there damage 25-44 and KXJ is only competitive 12-24.

    ReplyDelete
  34. That post is not true. WKXJ beat WDOD overall Women 18-34. That is the money bracket for Top 40!

    ReplyDelete
  35. If that's the "money bracket", why does KXJ make no money? They bill as much as RXR, which is close to nothing.

  36. isn't true that teens are unemployed or there hours are cut by law that its not even worth working while there in school the only demo who has cash now are 28 too 49 now when the congress get through with us we have no demos out there too spend anything if this sounds off topic it really isn't if look at the big picture

    ReplyDelete
  37. i just don't understand why they gear toward a younger audience who has no money

    ReplyDelete
  38. the big picture is that you need to learn how to use a period in your post.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Maybe the hope of hooking as many as they can now to have them in the future?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Quoting:
"isn't true that teens are unemployed or there hours are cut by law that its not even worth working while there in school the only demo who has cash now are 28 too 49 now when the congress get through with us we have no demos out there too spend anything if this sounds off topic it really isn't if look at the big picture"

It looks like this post was from one of those under-educated out-of-work teens. How about some capitalization and punctuation? And let's work on the important differences between there, their and they're. Oh, and contractions. Oh, and to and too ... never mind.

    ReplyDelete
  41. How about instead of blasting both stations for their shortcomings we celebrate the idea that we actually have 2 same-formated stations in town close enough in the ratings to be considered competitors.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Great point above. From what I understand, the only competition is for ratings, for WDOD out bills WKXJ by ten-fold.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think KISS ruined The mountain name with all the jokes

    ReplyDelete
  44. I doubt that. Historically, those things end up hurting you instead of helping you. I would argue that Kiss's name calling helped them in teens, but hurt them in the upper demos who are turned off from the juvenile insults.

    ReplyDelete
  45. All kiss' "jokes" did was remind listeners that there is another station in town playing the same music.

    ReplyDelete
  46. i never have conformed to the english language thanks twitter :) im a guy have no period hahah hits96 you rule

    ReplyDelete
  47. "In both 18-34 and 25-54, WDOD beat KXJ in every daypart. Only exception was at night, where KXJ won 18-34 but were destroyed (by 5 positions) 25-54."

Actually WKXJ won Women and Persons 18-34 Afternoons and Nights. Won overall W18-34 in Fall.

WKXJ isn't in the business of 25-54.

Kidd Kraddick and Ryan Seacrest did well in Fall for WDOD. Only dayparts that won 18-34.

    ReplyDelete
  48. If someone isn't "in the business" of the highest grossing demo, i.e. ad rates, they won't be in business very long.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thanks for your detailed insights Jo-Jo you may now go back to copying every promotion Hits/Mtn does.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Trends out yesterday. DOD over KXJ in every demo and every daypart except nights. Big drop for KXJ in 18-34 and W18+
