Longtime Radio Personality Max Hackett Passes Away

From ChattanoogaPulse.com:

Brewer Media is mourning the loss of one of our own today.  Longtime Chattanooga on-air personality Chester Smith, who went by the air name Max Hackett, was found dead in his apartment early Monday morning, apparently of natural causes.

Max had been a member of the morning show on News Talk 95.3 WPLZ since October. He also co-hosted a Monday evening show called Addiction Radio.

Hackett had been a talk radio host and music disc jockey in the Chattanooga market for three decades. Funeral services are pending.

  1. Sad news. Like everyone, Max had his demons. I worked with him for a few years at Brewer and we had our moments of conflict, but in recent years Max had begun to face his issues and I really enjoyed talking to him and conversation over lunch. Max, you will be missed!

  4. I met Max years ago at WGOW. We never had any conflicts during my time there. In 2010 he came to where I worked recognized me and was very friendly to a person he barely knew. He even remembered details that I would have thought wouldn't be of consequence to him. The Max I knew was a class act. Rest well , my friend.

  5. When Max first came to the show, was right after Denise left it and I wasn't in a good place and probably didn't give him much of a chance. New radio co-hosts are like arranged marriages. You're not expected to like each other, but you'd better not let the listeners know. But after a few months, I realized that Max knew what he was doing. I also knew about his past, but kept an open mind. During our time working together, he showed that he was professional and worked hard even though I know he was going through something very painful in his personal life. I hope he is finally at peace. I will miss him.
