From Radio-Online.com:
Talk WPLZ-FM (News Talk 95.3)/Chattanooga afternoon host Jay "The Jammer" Scott exits. The station replaces Scott by expanding noon hour host Stuart James to 4-6pm and adding an hour of Dial Global's Clark Howard from 1-4pm.

since our mighty moderator left out some details hoping we would ignore the fact this is 4 days late: jammer was fired monday.
ReplyDeleteCould a format change be on the horizon... hmmmmm... country?
ReplyDeletethis experiment has failed. miserably.
ReplyDeleteI'm not even sure what to say anymore. I can't even count how many different hosts the mornings & afternoons have gone through.
it's too bad,...it's not really funny anymore,.. and it was hilarious
heard he left beacause he and the management did not agree on the direction of his show, but again this is a brewer media station
ReplyDeletethis station ethier needs to change formats or be sold,it is a derailed TRAINWRECK
ReplyDeleteI wondered how long it would take for this forum to post the news of Jammer's firing. I like his show VERY MUCH. I can't belive how little quality local talk radio we have anymore. Although I didn't know Jammer personally, I thought he did a great job and I also like Matt Estes. When oh when are we going to get a talk show that we can actually listen to that won't be snatched off the air?
ReplyDeleteBecause "Jammer didn't like the time or direction" of the show? Last time I checked, Brewer was signing the paychecks. And when you work for someone else, you should generally follow their orders. Or find someone else to sign your paycheck.
ReplyDeleteClassic example of over-playing your hand. Jammer thought he had some "power-play" to lay on the table, and it didn't work. Only 4 or 5 radio personalities in this market can play that hand.
ReplyDeleteGoing home and listening to Jammer and Matt was a treat! He might have his faults and the DUI's, but his show was informative and entertaining. I think he was an asset to the station and the company and am saddened to see him go. (I don't know him personally; I was just a fan).
ReplyDeleteAlthough the station still carries the Glen Beck and other shows I like, I do not trust it anymore and will not tune to it; neither to any other Brewer Media stations.
Trust is everything!
I enjoyed listening to Jammer and Matt, and Stuart James annoys the hell out of me. Needless to say other than occasionally tuning in to Clark Howard, I now steer clear of WPLZ.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see The Mountain back ahead of Kiss FM in the CHR battle. I've always thought WDOD was a great sounding CHR with lots of interaction, while Kiss is simply a boring, cookie cutter jukebox.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Brewer desperately needs to flip formats. WPLZ & WALV are jokes that are going nowhere. And PLZ is a cash cow that's draining money with all the local air staff they are paying. I still think Brewer should have kept Roy Jaynes (Cadillac Jack) on board & let him program a music format more cheaply. But at this point, I do think a current based, hot country format to pick up the Duke listeners would be smart. It would definitely pull higher numbers & cost way less to operate. Another possibility might be the 90s/Gen. X format that's popping up around the country. Anyway, WPLZ should definitely be scrapped. I guess WALV could be left as sports since it's mostly syndicated, doesn't have as high of overhead, & has more of a dedicated, sellable audience.
Also, I kind of like the Hot AC format. I'd like to see My 98.1 do better & survive.
No, we don't need another country station. We need a real mainstream rock station. Not the mess Clear Channel calls "Rock 105" but something more like the Mountain before the recent change, Fox 102, or even the pre-Lite Mix Rock 105.
ReplyDeleteWPLZ reminds me of WSB in Atlanta when I was living there..circa 1972. No FM radio, no personality, hell even Luther would've sounded good then too.
ReplyDeleteJammer gave WPLZ something they didn't have..a local based show with all his connections. And he was usually right on what would happen in our community before it happened.
I don't know what happened, but look at the numbers of people who have turnstyled through that station..maybe it's not the rats in the maze, maybe it's the people who created the maze.
In my business, all things start at the top and trickle down..good & bad. Maybe they should look in the mirror.
Jim Brewer II doesn't do anything without consulting his astrological chart...
