CHATTANOOGA, TN. (January 9, 2011) - Brewer Media is pleased to announce the launch of Chattanooga’s new number one station for the hippie generation, Chattanooga Hippie Radio 106.9 beginning January 11, 2011.
With this addition to its broadcasting division, Brewer Media also becomes the first area radio station to utilize HD technology as WPLZ-95.3.2 along with a simulcast on a translator. The station will also be heard on 106.9 FM. Hippie Radio 106.9 will appeal to the baby boomer generation with music primarily from 1964-1973 featuring core artists such as the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Chicago, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Guess Who.
Brewer Media President, Jim Brewer II says, "There’s been a void in music for the boomers since a local station vacated the format for classic country several months ago. The boomers are one of the most attractive demos for advertisers and we intend to deliver that audience with a niche' format geared specifically to them."

for those with a HD radio you can get a preview of hippie now at 95.3 HD2 & HD3
ReplyDeleteThis will die with a 1.5 share, just like all of the other Brewer properties.
ReplyDelete5 FM's none achieving a 1 share except in the Urban format where the company seems to have some ability, but then they compete with no one in that format.
ReplyDeletehurry hippie please ...the "BIG" citidal suck has gotten old fast. If you really listen you can hear the same song 2 and if your lucky 3 times in one freaking day. C'mon hippies unite..
ReplyDeletethe company doesnt do urbal well. listen to power. songs on top of each other. imaging and jocks talking over songs for sometimes 30 seconds. the same songs sometimes playing 10-15 minutes apart. it sounds like amateur hour.
ReplyDeletePower 94's long success is about as bizarre a story radio could tell. Any outsider would look at you in bewilderment if you told their story. One thing is for certain, they connect with their audience. No matter how bad the station sounds, they connect.
ReplyDeletewhat time will they sign on?
ReplyDeleteThey are being delayed because of the weather. No one can get to the tower to 'flip the switch'.
ReplyDeleteLaunch might be later today but most likely it is delayed until the snow melts.
