Now why would they switch to country when they just took into the fold... classic country? Done right a classic country format could eat away an older demo and bring down us101 enough to put Sunny into number one across the board.
Maybe CC wants to put Seacrest on one of their own O&O sticks in town. I can see that kind of move for "My 98.1" after the holidays. They're all voicetracked anyway, might as well have a popular syndicated show to go along with the robot DJ's. Maybe this will push The Molehill to drop some of its other syndicated content and go back to local jocks.
who are the locals on my 98? hard to tell anymore since the pd's feed the outsiders lines like "i was at hamilton place yesterday" and generic stuff like "wal-mart is so crowded at christmas"
Jasopn Walker is a washed up recycled DJ and you have got to be kidding if you think he can even be in the same room as Seacrest. Ryan Seacrest has more talent in his little finger than Brad, Jason and that night guy all together! Wdod needs to start all over again with fresh new out of market talent.
Coming from a former PD here is my take on DODs problems. They are spending way too much time on air and online taking shots at KXJ. I've heard KXJ doing the same but it's typically taking shots at the number of commercials on DOD. DOD is on Facebook saying "yeah, the OTHER guys are giving away the same stuff we are, it's just a national contest instead of local." All a listener hears is "if you don't win tickets from us, you can try Kiss FM."
Jason is a great jock and a super guy but he isn't relevant to the format anymore. He sounds like he's doing middays on KZ.
Brad is also a super guy but his airshift sounds more like 4 hours of ego stroking. Maybe that's just Brad. Or maybe someone should work with him.
Anyone here watch Conan O'Brien on TBS? Notice how he's loosened up since getting out from under the tight restrictions at NBC? Anyone notice he's less funny and seems more like an overgrown kid whose parents are out of town? That's Sean Stewart.
And don't get me started on the guy after Stewart. I know for a fact that there are good people in this market who are either unemployed or underemployed who would be happy to work overnights. This kid sounds like a stuttering fool.
All of the Mountain jocks are doing breaks and scheduling songs that they all know they'd never get away with at a Clear Channel or Citadel or Cumulus. Hell, I'd go as far as to say the only reason they get away with it at Bahakel is because that company doesn't know CHR.
KXJ has its own long list of problems but they're winning the demos so it doesn't make since to point that finger at this time.
Interesting perspective. I don't think they are focused too much on attacking, I think it's a product of the environment. Both are trying to find a weakness, unfortunately for WDOD they can't seem to crystalize in one sentence what's wrong with KXJ. I can't really blame them because there are so many things wrong, it's hard to put it in one sentence. KXJ has found 7 or so words that define their competition. Pretty impressive.
As far as the jocks go, the Morning Show is strong. Jason is always classy, but sounds totally lost. Brad, without doubt, is the funniest guy in the room. Unfortunately, he'll be the first one to acknowledge it. Sean is exactly how you explained. I couldn't say it better. The guy behind him I couldn't speak about. I'm just glad to hear that someone locally is on the air.
Frankly, it is too easy to judge the talent from a message board. I think there are bigger issues to attack than the guys on the air. IMHO
Sean is a New York jerk, he attacks the community here more than he needs to and I haven't cared to listen to him even back when 96.5 was the only station I bothered with. Brad does need somebody to reign him in, Jason was always a good foil for him plus the two together made Jason sound a bit hipper.
The reason why they play some songs that don't fit on a CHR is because most of the DJ's don't love CHR, particularly Brad. If they want a pure-CHR they need to go head hunting for CHR-experienced or ethnic on-air talent from Brewer or elsewhere - you can't just swap CD's in the player, keep the same talent and voiceover guy and logo and say your station is now something it's not. Personally I'd rather see CHR go the way of the dodo, but if they're serious about doing it (they don't seem to be) doing it the way it's being done isn't a good idea.
Too many reasons, Anonymous. Most of them are my fault. I moved here to take a job in the field of my college major. No, I will not divulge name or market in the event I were to attempt getting into radio here. I've heard this board can be a big black mark on one's name.
I actually like The Mountain's sound much more than Clear Channel's generic Kiss. Guess I'm just older, but to me, Jason and the topics he starts on air are much more interesting than the lame TMZ celebrity junk that most CHRs like Kiss put out. What's wrong with a guy bringing up real life topics that are locally relevant. I like hearing local callers opinions on topics and odd questions. I think that conversational style with lots of local focus is way more interesting than a generic jukebox with very little interaction other than the latest Hollywood info. Surely I'm not the only person who still likes CHR music but wants to hear somewhat intelligent topics in between. Anyway, the comments here surprised me because I always thought Jason was one of the best midday CHR shows I'd heard (remember people, middays should skew a bit older anyway). Maybe it's me, but I love the fact that The Mountain sounds different than the cookie cutter voice tracked corporate stations. It sounds more like CHR used to sound before it was boiled down to a souless, mindless iPod jukebox.
Oh btw, what's wrong with Conan. I absolutely love his new show & it's been doing great in the ratings so far. He's a lot more popular and funny now than before.

Looks like the the Mountain wont switch to country
ReplyDeleteWell, you cannot switch to country with Ryan Seacrest. So maybe......

ReplyDeleteMy 98.1 has two local personalities on during the day. Why would they change it to a syndicated show like Seacrest? Probably won't happen.
ReplyDeletePlus, local only matters if it's good. "The Molehill" still can't that right.
who are the locals on my 98? hard to tell anymore since the pd's feed the outsiders lines like "i was at hamilton place yesterday" and generic stuff like "wal-mart is so crowded at christmas"
ReplyDeleteYes, because The Molehill crew begging for phone calls to say they are local. We get it. You have a phone.
ReplyDelete...Is so much better...
ReplyDeleteMelissa is Mo from Dex & Mo... The afternoon guy on 98-1 is in house. He's "The Joey" from Alive and other stations around the market.
ReplyDeleteSmart move in dropping Seacrest. Jason Walker is much more enjoyable to listen to anyway.

ReplyDeleteIm with you, there person before me. I would love to hear younger hipper people on the the Mtn.

oh, man. Seacrest is the best thing to happen to radio. In all honesty, I just think that DOD needs fresh talent as well.

ReplyDeleteDid I read posts above that insinuated that the Jocks on the air pick their own songs? Excuse me for a moment.
ReplyDeleteLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!
That format is torture pure and simple.
ReplyDeleteWhat I'd give to be able to hear trip hop on it for a day.
