who the guy doing the station ID's ??
ReplyDeletePerhaps Charlie Van Dyke?
ReplyDeleteThey do play great music. I listened from noon on. I did think '867-5309' kinda sounded odd in the mix, but otherwise enjoyed listening.
ReplyDeleteBetween Citadel's Big and CC's My. I wouldn't want to be WDEF.
ReplyDelete98.1 doesn't have a pulse. I doubt they are losing too much sleep over that station.
ReplyDeleteIt only took you guys 5 years to figure out what we knew all the time. GT-108 died in '05 but now you HAD to bring back our oldies!
ReplyDeleteI still have my last GT-108 email telling us goodbye, but now you're back.
Na Na Na Na Na NAAAAAAA!
HaHaHaHaHa! WE got the last laugh!!!!!
"WE got the last laugh!!!!! " - But you're still unemployed.
ReplyDelete"98.1 doesn't have a pulse." There are a few business with it on already. The street buzz is continuing to grow. Give it time.
ReplyDeleteLike CC or not 98.1 is a well-done alternative to Sunny for the middle age women who like the occasional rhythmic song.
ReplyDeleteIts been the same format for over a year and has ZERO numbers to show for it. Keep telling yourself it's working and the guys on South Broad will continue to laugh.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't South Broad have The Titanic, I mean The Mountain, to worry about?
ReplyDeleteFirst off the station sounds exactly like the river did (same size stick)and we all know how that ended up. Also the VO guy sounds BAD! I can't tell if he is saying BIG FM or PIG FM. Also after listening for 3 hours I only heard them promote commercial free once. Shouldn't they be pounding that with as many commercials as sunny plays?
ReplyDeleteI would put my money on the mountain going country.... If they did it would give us a 100K signal and eat away at USY just enough to make Sunny #1 in the market.
ReplyDeleteImaging and voice aside. I do like the music.
ReplyDeleteThe Mountain going country would be interesting. They just CANNOT keep the same air talent like they did with the AAA transition. I get the whole "keeping your people" and it's great. I wish most of Corporate America did that. I just don't see the current staff adjusting and it working. Thoughts?
WDOD is probably making a decent buck as a CHR and can continue that for a few more months. They would have to start all over as a country. Risky.
ReplyDeleteIf you have listened to BIG FM IT is not GT108. I hated the oldies station because it played too much 50's and 60's. This is mostly 70s. And I really like it.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand, WDOD is a top 5 billing station and still makes as much money as JTT. I hardly imagine they would throw that all away just to be a country alternative. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't WDOD been country before and it didn't work out?
ReplyDeleteWDOD actually started out as country and then WUSY signed on and took them out.
ReplyDeleteWDOD may be billing that but that's the Pre-KISS beating... Very interesting chain of events!
On a side note.
Anyone notice the lack of Christmas Music on WDEF?? Shouldn't they have flipped already or am I a week early?
Should have been Thanksgiving weekend.
ReplyDeleteOnly in the Chattanooga Radio Forum could some unemployed and totally undertalented jock make negative comments about Charlie Van Dyke. I'll be sure and forward your criticisms to Charlie so maybe he can take your advice and finally get a some decent clients since most of his work is in mere top 10 markets and national agency. Heck he only did mornings on KHJ and K-Earth in Los Angeles. What a sad hack he is.
ReplyDeleteBIG FM sounds great. Anyone whose core teen years was the 1970's is going to love this station.
I love this station
ReplyDeleteVery cool! They are calling it Classic Hits/Oldies... Isn't that AC? lol
ReplyDeleteFinally, some great music comes home.
ReplyDeleteNice format change! I wonder if they will continue to operate without air personalities? So far as I can tell, the playlist contains enough variation not to get stale. When the station was GT 108, the song selection was too limited, the station sounded boring. Thumbs up so far!
ReplyDeleteLooks like they will have at least some live local people on the air per this post on radio-info.com

I'm a senior citizen who gives this station a thumbs up!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe station voice is CVD, and the only thing wrong with it, is that they are way over processed..so much they sound muddy. I haven't heard one mention of the 5,000 songs in a row (although I don't listen for more than 20-25 minutes at a stretch) since they signed on. You'd think they would be be promoting that at least every 30 minutes or so...but then, it's Citadel. They couldn't properly promote World Peace if they held the key.
ReplyDeleteActually I have heard them talk about the 5000 songs in a row several times, usually near the top of the hour. I'm enjoying the variety ... really good music mix.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good mix. Sounds like they are playing the AC records that DEF has been missing for a few years! Sounds very good.
ReplyDeleteOkay...enough with the repetition. If I hear "Baker Street" one more time this weekend, I'm out.
ReplyDeleteheard the same song twice in one day. how long does it take or howw fast do they play 5000 songs?
ReplyDeleteMy friends, they say they play 5000 songs in a row....not 5000 "DIFFERENT" songs in a row! Many of those good old tunes repeat.....because we love repetiton right?
ReplyDeletethis station sucks. music radio just can not cut it anymore.
ReplyDeleteCountry is the only music format that has a fighting chance. And it would appear that that format just failed pretty miserably.
It's amazing that anybody would spend any real money on advertising on a radio station that nobody who matters, nobody who has any money, or at least anyone who is going to spend any money even knows is there.
Seriously. Do programmers not understand how sophisticated today's electronic & entertainment world is? That's a serious question?
Do they not understand that an analog terrestrial radio signal is as a primitive medium as there is?
News, Talk, & Sports can work on the dial. It's hard to do well but if it is done well it can thrive.
terrestrial radio is the absolute last resort for people to listen to music.
Wow. How depressing.
ReplyDeleteI won't be as down. I like the playlist, but wish it were longer. I'm hearing a lot of repeat, but maybe I was just so happy to hear this music on the air, I've been listening too long. Perhaps a break is in order. Maybe I'll listen to the same 24 Christmas songs on one of our many all-Christmas-all-the-time stations.
"this station sucks. music radio just can not cut it anymore."
ReplyDeleteSome modern formats might work.
Why not some down tempo? Some Trip Hop?
Something cutting edge?
On flip side why doesn't Chattanooga have a blues station?
In a mocking voice: Why doesn't chattanooga have a blues station? Are you serious. Have you now clue on sales and survival. Show me one market in America that has a BLUES stations that makes money. There is none! At least Classic hits has some large enough appeal between the 70's and 80's music that they play to gain some listeners that should convert to advertisres. Hell give me them a chance. Check back in about a year and let's see what there doing.
ReplyDeleteI was devastated when GT 108 left the airways. I was so excited to hear the oldies were back. It is about time!!!! I and so many of my friends and co-workers listen to this station now. Please stay!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIn a mocking voice: Why doesn't chattanooga have a blues station?
ReplyDeleteWell with that new low power FM bill maybe we will get a new community oriented station. There have been several groups looking to put one for years.
