From the Chattanooga Times Free Press:
Long-time radio personality Richard Parker Smith, 48, passed away this morning, according to his brother Greg Smith.
Smith was found at home by his roommate, Jeff Powell, according to Smith.
“There was no sign of any kind of foul play, but he had been in bad health lately,” Smith said. “I don’t really know anything more right now.”
Smith worked under the name Parker Smith at several radio stations dating back to the early '80s and was known for his quick wit and sometimes controversial approach.
It's kind of weird listening to all the tributes from people who wouldn't give him a job the last few years of his life. Hypocrites.
ReplyDeleteI worked with Parker years ago. I had heard the horror stories from other co-workers. he was always cool with me, even telling me how and what to work on to get better. I have moved on and have used his advice to advance my radio career.
ReplyDeleteIm sad to hear about your passing Parker, I'll have a few for you brother
can we not talk about someone who cannot defend themself. please have some respect.
ReplyDeleteAre you serious about the respect for the dead? Parker knew he was an ass. I worked with him for years and was always nice to him but never in return. And he may have been Mr Put on a face when he had to but not behind the scenes. But let's be really honest NOT A EASY GUY TO WORK WITH. No one should wonder why he never worked again in radio. God rest his soul!
ReplyDeleteI would be a ass to. If I had to work with people with no talent
ReplyDeleteWow how big of a person are you when you talk about someone the way you are when they just passed. Sad Sad Sad.....
ReplyDeleteParker might have known he was an ass, but it seems like some of the folks posting here bought into it hook, line and sinker...if you did not like his style then why did you listen? And if you didn't listen then how did you know he was an ass? You can't have it both ways. And it sounds like more than a little jealousy to me.
ReplyDeleteGive the guy a break. He won't be bothering you any more.
Parker was Chattanooga's best radio personality ever and that includes Luther. Without Parker Chattanooga radio isn't nothing.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree!!! thanks for posting this.
ReplyDeleteParker and Eric Page are the two best radio personalities Chattanooga will ever have. Little wonder they get so much hate from those not nearly as talented or popular.
ReplyDeleteI miss Parker very much, he was a huge part of my life, I love him and always will! The people that have nothing nice to say don;t say it at all, very disrespectful! You must not have knowN the REAL Parker. You better think what people will say about you! R.I.P MY LOVE..
