From AllAccess.com:
ALL ACCESS has learned that GREAT PLAINS MEDIA CountryWGSQ/COOKEVILLE, TN PD/morning personality GATOR HARRISON has been named OM of CLEAR CHANNEL CHATTANOOGA and PD for Country WUSY.
GATOR replaces JAY CRUZE, who exited in MAY. His first day on the job will be AUGUST 2nd.

Congratulations to Gator, he deserves it!
ReplyDeleteHe has always been a class act in Cookeville and will be the same in Chattanooga.
Good Luck friend,
Jim S.
This is the smartest, best move US101 /Clear Channel has made in years. Look out!
ReplyDeleteSo will this guy blow WOGT out of the water, and put on a real live midday show on WUSY, and make it back to the all time best country station
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that WOGT will continue to grow and be the thorn in their side it was designed to be. If I were them I would be more worried about WUUQ taping into their older demos. Listen this guy is not the second coming, remember it is still owned by CLEAR CHANNEL.
ReplyDeleteWe would like to say hi to Gator for finding the forum. Congratulations are in order for making his first 3 posts! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteSo this is the guy who will blow The Duke out ofthe water. Note to this Gator guy. Two GM's and Two PD's later and no one has accomplished the task of running Citadel country out of the market. Even with all ofthe help from CC corporate genius Clay Hunnicutt WOGT is still hanging around and from what I hear do okay. I think WUSYs biggest concern should be WUUQ taping into their older demos. Oh yeah and that OLD outdate morning show on USY has got to go if you want to even consider getting your young demos back. My two cents! Next
ReplyDeleteNo offense to any of the PD's that were or are at WUSY, but why does Clear Channel insist on hiring small market PD's? Gator comes from Cookeville, Jay Cruze was from Panama City and so on and so forth.
ReplyDeleteThey may be nice guys, but doesn't a station as important as WUSY need a major market PD? Does the plan involve running the station as a small market station? Is that the key to their sucess?
WUSY IS a small-market station. That's where they compete. Chattanooga is NOT top-50.
ReplyDeleteOkay PDs from town bigger than market 289 (cookville) and 239 (Panama City. Chattanooga is at least market 106 and WUSY is at the very least a legendary station in its format. I guess the point is that WUSY and Chattanooga may desrve better. We'll see what a Gator can do in Vols country: Now thats funny right there!
ReplyDeleteSome may say that CC hires small market PD's because they will work for less. But considering how many major market PD's that are out of work, I would think you could pick up a big league player for about the same price.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that those guys have big ideas and do not cotton to those 3 minute remote breaks, hick sounding part-timers and unprepared DJ breaks!
Anyone heard from Jay Cruz? Wonder how unemployeement is treatin him? He better learn real qucik that you don't succeed in this business by being a jerk to people or playing games all the time. I guess nobody is hiring smartasses in Chattnooga these days? One word for Jay: UHAUL
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of name is "Gator". And people wonder why no one takes radio guys seriously.
ReplyDeleteI think the trick is to make your name memorable so that you will remember it for diary purposes. That's why we have all the cute clever things like "Froggy," The Bull, The Mountain, Kiss and all those goofy station names. If you have a name like Gator, Bubba, Bearman, Boner, Big Daddy, etc....hopefully, people will remember that from the pack of Ken, Kris, Billy, Josh, Duane, Suzy and such.
ReplyDeleteNow if you had a name like- Pimpleface Rumplestilskin.....that would be memorable!!!!
Gator was a huge success for a LONG time doing mornings as well right? Well we can all see what is coming next. Right?
ReplyDeleteBoy could US101 use a morning face lift!
ReplyDeleteI know this thread is supposed to be about Gator, but can someone explain Daniel's function on the US morning show? Is he listed on the website or any of the imageing? Is he just a board op? Show producer? Inspirational example?

I guess that answers that queestion
The real question is will this guy Gator work to build bonds with the other stations and orginizations that previous folks have shattered? It's amazing how well all of the other radio groups get along except for Clear Channel.
ReplyDeleteWell, Gator's been on the job for a whopping 2 days now. How's it going?
ReplyDeleteGator you been there for two weeks what are doing? The website still says JAY is the contact person for programming. Come on get things under control. Oh wait Bearman, Ken and Dex don't work for you because they have been there long enough that they do what they want to! So technically Brian, Mo and those two goofy parttimers are all you have. Good luck with that!
