Councilman McGary To Be Talk Radio Host

City Councilman Andrae McGary has taken a gig as a Talk Radio host.

The 30-year-old District 8 councilman was introduced Monday morning as the new host of WGOW Radio's "Live & Local" afternoon show.

He replaces Robert T. Nash, who was dismissed recently for unspecified reasons.

Ironically, Mr. Nash was lambasting Councilman McGary for an alleged conflict of interest when he was terminated.

Councilman McGary, who gave up a post as interim director of the Chattanooga Homeless Coalition after flak about a conflict, said he had no part in the firing of Mr. Nash.

  1. I listened for a an hour, then awoke from a pleasant nap. The guy is Sheer Boredom Personified. How the heck did he get the gig? Oh, yeah...

  2. How surprised will anyone be when everyone comes out and acknowledges that it was a big hoax?

    Please excuse my penultimate "a."

Regarding the hoax theory, RTN is gone forever..sorry, but that's a fact.

  5. I really like Andrae McGary, and I think he's a very intelligent and well-spoken guy, but REALLY?!?!? I mean, I have NO doubt in my mind that he can do this, but isn't it a bit of a conflict of interests?

So much for unbiased media! Wonder how Andrae will react when he gets a ticked-off caller with a concern related to his district? Will he address it, or will those calls "magically" be screened and sent away??

Ah well, at least the screaming, raging, "nails on a chalkboard" voice, loose cannon RTN is gone!

  6. This man seems very smart, and likable. However, I find his show and style very dull. Though I found very many things to disagree with RTN about, he was always entertaining to me.

  7. As much as I loathe to credit anything Parker Smith has said, he was right in saying it's ludicrous to hire people with absolutely no radio experience.

Someone needs to check what's in the coffee machine over at WGOW. I think it's been spiked with hallucinogenics.

  8. Live and Local is no longer worth listening to. It has nothing to do with RTN, I was just hoping for somebody who is at least listenable. I don't know anything about ratings, but let me ask somebody who does: How many ratings periods will Andre get before he gets the ax? And, if he does get low ratings will WGOW run the risk of being labeled "racist" if they fire him due to low ratings?

  10. I think he is doing fine.
His style is more of a dialoguer.
And he pushes people beyond short, quick, and pat answer that talk usually pushes.
