Robert T. Nash Off The Air At WGOW

From Chattanooga Times Free Press:

Robert T. Nash, host of “Live & Local” on WGOW-FM 102.3, is no longer with the station, according to program director Bill Lockhart.

Mr. Lockhart said Friday afternoon that Mr. Nash had tendered his resignation.

“He did not leave on bad terms,” Mr. Lockhart said. “There was nothing at all in his job performance or any residual blowback from one of his shows.”

Reached at his home Friday afternoon, Mr. Nash said he was, in fact, fired Friday morning.

“I did not resign,” he said. “I hold great hope of working through these difficulties, which I became aware of only yesterday when they were brought to me by senior members of management of the Citadel Broadcast cluster.

“I thank you for your interest at this point in time. That is all I’d like to say.”

Mr. Lockhart said that Bob Moore will fill in during the 1-4 p.m. Monday-Friday time slot on an interim basis and that the station has begun looking for a replacement.

  2. WOW thought it was an April fools joke

  3. Or, it could be because Nash was abrasive with no talent and no respect for his co-workers. Same crap happened before Nash was hired. It'll happen again.

  4. He is a time bomb and has a major you owe me complex. Nobody liked working with this guy why do you think Mary Ann jumped ship so early?

  5. Note to anyone who post or reads the comments on the Chattanoogan web site. You have no idea what you are talking about. Yeah he may have had a good show and ratings but to work in the same building as this guy was impossible. It went way beyond ego. He verbally attacked people for every little item that didn't go his way and then he would only apologize because management had to beg him to. He would blame his mistakes on everyone within earshot. Robert T needs to slow down and realize that the great Talkers of our time like Beck, Harvey, King, Limbaugh, Winfrey and even guys like Howard Stern LISTEN and understand others. It is not always about everyone listening to you! And for the record I have heard that his ratings were not that good anyway.

  6. I'll actually listen now that he's gone...his ego was the biggest part of his schtick...abusive, abrasive, self-possessed, boorish...not nearly as smart as he thinks he is...sure will miss him...NOT...

  7. The real question here is why does NewsChannel 9 deem it necessary to cover the RTN story ? I mean ... so a media person got fired! Big deal. It happens with regularity in this market. Nash was no great shakes on the air, had mediocre ratings at best, and was a royal pain to work with.
    I know, I did it.
In media, you're either an asset or a liability. Nash was a liability. Big Time.
I'm glad their management team finally has the gall to do what should've been done a long time ago.

I always got along w/ RTN very very well. And I worked directly w/ him @ least 5 dozen times/shows/mornings.

I consider him a good friend

    serious talk.

  9. Rumblings about the talk monster possibly bringing in a "team" for the show. Not going to be the 1 anchor/main voice show it has been in the past. Less local talk, more entertainment-focused?

    Thoughts?

  10. Who is the best "Less local talk, more entertainment-focused" show? Luther, John Boy & Billy, Billy & Boner, Duane & Abby, Eric and Donna L, Bearman & Ken, Kid Kraddick

  11. I think RTN was a very talented talk show host with a huge ego . Yes he was abrasive an abusive but for the most part he was right on and entertaining . Will miss his talent an colorful insight .

  12. Duane and Abby would be first
Kidd Kraddick would be second for sure.....

  13. Huge ego and small stature make a volatile combination. He thought he was so good he could do and say whatever he wanted without being held accountable. I doubt the ratings will slip much. All the people who want to listen to intelligent, conversational talk radio are starting to call in. Sure, WGOW will lose the racist unemployed good ole boy listeners, but that demographic is shrinking. And thank god we no longer have to hear about what restaurant RTN went to, what he ate, what he cooked for dinner, what his dog did, what his cat did, obscure rock and art references, his Porsche, all his "inside sources", his supposed "dirt" he had on almost everyone but never actually revealed what it was, his hatred of jews and black, and his free promotions for his wife's massage practice. I wonder if he's going to have to actually pay for his comcast connection now.

  14. So what about the latest news, like Deason leaving The Pulse, and Bobby Byrd and Ed Ramsey coming on board there for mornings and afternoons?
And smart money bets Nash & Jim have already had "talks".

  15. I agree with the statement before last. Good riddance. He was a man full of ego that thought he could get away with anything both on-air and off. He was a solid radio host who got decent ratings but left a tornado in his path. You piss off, mouth off or cuss out the wrong people and there are consequences. And he won't go to Brewer or any other station in town until he fights that non-compete clause.

  16. I have serious doubts that WPLZ will be the same station following the release of the Winter Arbitron they are still only putting up a .6 in the latest trend. There is no money for those numbers and Robert T. is not the answer.

  17. If he is the crackerjack reporter/journalist he thinks himself to be I'm sure he'll find another media job as long as it's not with an organization he has smeared on the air like....like....hmmm, I'll get back to you on that. He always plugged chattanoogan.com, so maybe they'll throw him a bone.

  18. This blog must be run by someone at WPLZ since they broke Robert T's story but not Dale Deason's. Afternoons at 95.3 are still need much work.

  19. "Afternoons" on WPLZ need much work?
You must not be listening to the other dayparts.

  20. In my opinion they went from bad to worse with Capn' Bobby Bird. Let's see what can I talk about. Oh yeah myself!

  21. I hear Sgt. Jerri Weary at CPD needs an intern. Maybe he could do that. Or she could give him a referral to Leadership Chattanooga.

No one I know of at work named "Anonymous." Nothing nefarious about Dale leaving. Advertising business is picking up for him and he wanted to concentrate on his business that he's had for 20 years. I wish him luck.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well, Louis if that is the case it would be nice for daily listeners like myself who listen in blocks 5-6 of the reason why he left. I heard Bobby talk alot about Bobby and nothing about Dale. It is pretty normal in radio if it is well wishes that you mentioned what they are doing.

    Ratings come out Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Get used to Bobby talking about Bobby! He loves himself and everything that goes on around himself!

    ReplyDelete
  25. We talked about him on the air Monday and again on Friday. And we won't shy away from talking about Dale. He's a great guy, the Brewers like him and we were all a little bummed when he decided to leave, but the "show" must go on. We like Bobby and as soon as we get used to each other, I'm sure the show will "gel."

For those who obviously HATE the station or us, ... quit listening. Why torture yourself if you don't like what you hear. There are other options out there. I don't claim to be the end-all, beat-all of radio. I do the job I was hired to do to the best of my ability. If that isn't good enough for you, by all means, tune-out.

The only thing that bugs me is when people snipe under the guise of "anonymous" posts. I just don't see where that helps anything.

For those of you who like the station and listen, I am grateful. If you have helpful suggestions, I'm always open to making the show - and station - better.

    Thanks,
    Louis Lee

  26. I suggest maybe a Turkey Drop over Hamilton Place? Would be good radio.

    ReplyDelete
  27. just b/c people hate your station. or you. or the ones that run it.

doesn't mean those people are listening.

can't "tune-out" if it's not tuned in to begin with. It's pretty easy to cop out by using the Deason "left to concentrate of his ad business"

Deason had this same business one a year ago when he agreed to take the morning drive position. Deason likes to do radio.

good radio. That's got as much to do w/ leaving as his advertising business focus. This isn;t good radio.

Deason would have never taken this position just to leave almost exactly a year later if it was a good product.

  28. Perhaps Dale had a one year contract. Obviously this station is not resonating in the marketplace. Driving a boat that is taking on water is not easy or fun. I am sure his advertising clients will be better served if he gets a few more hours of sleep.

  29. I'm checking out the winter book. Am I reading it right? I don't see WPLZ mentioned at all?

I think I'll go read a good book.

  33. Louis 95.3 needs get someone to stop airing the commercial with Dale in it on Channel 3 and change out Dale's picture on your website. ONAIRnow......
If we still had the forum where we could be talking about different subjects it would be nice.

  34. Thanks, the web site has been updated and a new commercial was shot this week, It should start running on Channel 3 soon.

  35. I was thrilled when I found your station last summer! I switched from WGOW - felt like I went from crass to class! I just loved your early morning line-up! What a pleasure not to have people interrupting and talking over each other! It seemed so civil and intelligent. However, all that has changed with the loss of Dale Deason and I really miss it. (Frantic antics just don't work first thing in the morning.) I am back to WGOW and it actually sounds pretty good in comparison. I am truly sorry to say that. However, I do tune in at 9am to listen to Glenn Beck. Thank you for that!

  36. I see RTN is using Twitter to take potshots at his former employer. Keep it classy RTN. How's that job search going?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Kevin West tweeted it so I would think it was true. The other reason I think it's true is that RTN isn't crowing about the fact that ratings for his time slot went down. I guess those legions of RTN fans predicting WGOW's demise because they fired him were wrong. As for him finding a new job, good luck with that - tweeting that McGary a "tar baby" is not going to win you many jobs in the reputable media. Neither will continually bashing your old employer. I think the little guy actually believed he was as powerful as he thought.

    ReplyDelete
  38. without RTN on the air anymore middays just aren't fun anymore
